Pharmacology, Internal Medicine, and Prescription Opioid Drugs Course Description: This live virtual course provides dental professionals with a comprehensive review of pharmacology, selected internal medicine considerations, and prescription opioid drugs as they relate to dental patient care. The course examines commonly encountered medications, medication-related oral and systemic considerations, and the importance of reviewing a patient's medical and medication history. Participants will explore basic pharmacologic principles, drug classifications, adverse effects, drug interactions, and considerations involving patients with selected systemic conditions. The course also reviews prescription opioid medications, pain management considerations, opioid-related risks, safe prescribing principles, and professional responsibilities related to medication awareness and patient education. Emphasis is placed on recognizing medication-related considerations, evaluating medical and medication histories, and supporting informed clinical decision-making and patient safety. Upon Completion of This Course, Participants Will Be Able To: • Describe basic pharmacologic principles relevant to dental patient care. • Identify commonly encountered medication classifications and selected oral or systemic effects. • Recognize potential adverse drug effects and drug interaction considerations. • Discuss the importance of obtaining and reviewing an accurate medical and medication history. • Identify selected internal medicine considerations that may influence dental treatment planning. • Describe prescription opioid drug classifications and their role in pain management. • Discuss opioid-related risks, adverse effects, and safety considerations. • Explain principles associated with responsible opioid prescribing and patient education. • Recognize the dental professional's role in supporting medication safety and interdisciplinary communication. 1. Tuition & Payment Policy The Institute for Allied Professionals offer flexible tuition arrangements to support accessibility for all students. While tuition rates vary by program, all students are required to comply with the following guidelines: Payment Plans Available Students may choose to pay their remaining tuition balance through one of the approved payment schedules: Weekly payments Bi-weekly payments Monthly payments This flexibility allows students to manage their financial obligations according to their individual needs. Once a payment plan is selected, the student must remain consistent with that plan throughout the duration of the course unless the school approves a change. Payment Responsibility Students are fully responsible for ensuring payments are made on time. It is the student’s responsibility to monitor their payment dates, communicate any issues in advance, and ensure that tuition obligations are met promptly. Failure to Pay If a student fails to submit any tuition payments within 30 days, the following policies apply: The student will be removed from the course. The student will lose access to all Zoom classes, materials, instructors, and resources. The student will become ineligible for any internship, certification, or completion acknowledgment. The school will consider the student withdrawn from the program. Students who are removed due to nonpayment must re-enroll as a new student if they wish to return, including completing a new enrollment agreement and submitting a new payment plan or deposit, when applicable. Payment Flexibility While we aim to support students and understand that unexpected financial challenges may arise, it is essential that students reach out to the school before missing a payment. Communication allows us to help create reasonable arrangements when possible. However: Students must understand that no refunds are provided once tuition payments have been made. Extensions or grace periods are not guaranteed and are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Our goal is to support each student while maintaining the integrity of the educational program. 2. Refund Policy Refunds are offered in accordance with state guidelines and school policy. Although specific refund amounts and percentages are not listed here, the general structure is as follows: General Refund Rules Refunds apply only during the designated pre-course refund period.
